It all starts with a trial

Every new EDSC swimmer — age 6 or 60 — begins with a friendly trial session, so our coaches can place you in the squad where you'll thrive. It takes two minutes to request one.

Questions?

Trial FAQs

What does it cost to swim with EDSC?

An annual membership fee (due on joining and each 1 February) plus a monthly squad fee that varies by squad. The current schedule is in the EDSC Swimming Fees document — see Fees & Subscriptions. Artistic swimmers: your first taster session is free.

Where and when would I train?

We train at Erith Leisure Centre, Crook Log, Thamesmere, Charlton Lido, Dartford Grammar School for Girls, White Oak and Fairfield — your squad determines your venues and times. Coaches confirm your schedule at the trial.

What should I bring to a trial?

Swimsuit or jammers, goggles and a swim cap if you have one. Arrive a little early so the coaches can say hello before you get in.

How fit do I need to be?

For competitive swimming (6+) you should manage 25m of front crawl, breaststroke and backstroke. Artistic swimming and masters welcome a much wider range of starting levels — just get in touch.

Is there an attendance expectation?

Competitive and artistic squads ask for at least 75% attendance — progress in the water comes from consistency.

How are children kept safe?

We follow Swim England's Wavepower safeguarding policy, and our Welfare Officer is contactable by any member or parent at any time via the contact page.
